Domain Registration gives you the right to use a domain name for
a given period of time. It allows you to find your DNS servers. DNS
Services does the heavy lifting of resolving your site to its IP address. When
you type in an address into your web browser, say,
www.nettica.com, that request is handled through the Domain Name System
(DNS) and is translated into a numerical IP address, which is what your browser
uses to connect to the site. Many of the larger domain name registrars do
not offer DNS services as they expect you to run your own DNS servers.
Many DNS Service providers do not offer Domain Registration. Nettica
offers both services in a single easy to use interface.
No, Nettica helps you host your own domain using your own
broadband connection.
Our Domain Registration and DNS Services are platform neutral
and allow you to access your Linux server from the Internet.
DNS is usually not something you think about until something
goes wrong. Many customers come to us when their site is down because
they chose the "wrong" DNS provider. The last thing you want in that case
is email hassles since email runs off DNS as well. We do not require
activation to purchase services to help you get back on your feet as quickly as
possible. After your site comes back up you can resend the activation
email and activate the rest of your account. If you simply want to try
out of services, your email is probably working fine, so we require activation.
When you activate your account and sign-up for the trial we will
automatically set your IP address to your current IP address. This is not
100% full-proof if you are behind certain proxies. To update your IP
address, select "peerserver.com" from your account summary and then click on
Manage DNS. From the DNS management page click on the "Lookup IP
Address". If they do not match, edit the DNS entry and change it to the
one from the lookup window. If the lookup window comes up with an error,
then you are behind a firewall and we cannot determine the right address.
Try again from another location.
Your hostname is "your-username.peerserver.com".
There is no "www." in front of it. To access it from the browser type
"http://your-username.peerserver.com". To test your address from
a command line you would type:
c:\>ping your-username.peerserver.com
