NETTICA BULK DNS SERVICES
making DNS easy to manage
Nettica has the easiest to use, most flexible bulk DNS services
on the market. Not only can you freely create and delete your DNS zones,
but you can use templates to manage your domains in bulk, as well as
pre-configure a standard setup for your domains. This makes it really
easy to control your costs and manage your services. But don't take our
word for it, see for yourself how easy it is by reading this brief tutorial.
ACCOUNT SUMMARY
The first thing you'll notice after you purchase bulk DNS services is a change
in your account summary. You'll now have a custom panel for managing your
bulk services.

for managing, renewing, or purchasing additional blocks.
ADDING NEW DNS ZONES
To add a new domain, click on the "ADD DOMAINS..." link.
This will bring you to your add bulk DNS page. Here you can add as
many domains as you'd like, up to your limit. You can also specify a
group/template that should be applied to the domain as it's created.

ADD PRIMARY DNS SERVICES
|
|
Add domains to this group:
(leave blank for the default group) |
| Add domains above, one per line. The domain name must be the first item on the
line. Any additional information after the first whitespace chatacter
will be ignored. This is to allow easy cut-and-pasting of domain names. |

|
|
Of course for each domain you add you will need to change the DNS registration
with your registrar to point to our DNS servers, but other than that it is a
fairly painless process. If you accidentally type the wrong name, leave
off the ".com", or accidentally include the "www.", don't sweat it, in fact
let's fix it right now. On the Add page there is also a link to Delete
Domains, click on it to remove your mistakes.
DELETING DNS ZONES
REMAINING CREDITS: 97
DELETE DNS SERVICES
|
|
| List the domains to delete one per line. You may cut and paste names directly
from your account summary. |

|
|
Click submit and your total credits go back up to 99. You are not asked
for confirmation after you press submit. As with adding domains, you can
cut-and-paste a whole list of domains to delete (such as from your account
summary). If you do accidentally delete the wrong domain, you can
instantly recreate it. And using the bulk DNS template, your domain may
not even need a single change made to it after you recreate it.
BULK EDIT TEMPLATE
From the account summary (and all of the bulk management pages), you can click
on the link to edit your bulk DNS template. This is the template used
when creating new domains, as well as managing them in bulk after creation.
In this example, the user is in the process of adding a new mail (MX) record to
their template. As you can see, this is a slightly more advanced
interface than the standard DNS management page.
Use "{domain}" as a placeholder for the actual domain name to be filled in
later. You can specify absolute names, but it is not recommended and the
name will be applied for all domains.
If you are changing the template after the fact, you can remove entries you do
not want touched. The template will only add and modify existing
entries. If you've added additional entries to some of your domains,
those entries will be untouched when applying templated changes.
APPLYING THE BULK DNS TEMPLATE
Now that the template is all setup, it's time to apply it to the domains.
Select the domains you wish to apply this template to. To select
(or de-select) all domains, click the top checkbox.
You can selectively choose which domains to apply the template, or select them
all. After applying the template, you can see that the domain is
completely setup and ready to use. As you add new domains, they will also
use this same template, so the first thing you probably want to do is setup
your default configuration.

ADDING SECONDARY ZONES
You can create either primary or secondary DNS zones with Bulk DNS
Services. However, creating a secondary zone does not require a template,
as its configuration is trivial. To create a secondary DNS zone, click on
"Add Secondary DNS", enter the names of the domains, and the name and IP
address of your Master DNS server (usually your primary DNS server).
Click submit and you're done.
GROUP MANAGEMENT
The newest feature of our bulk service is the ability to
organize your DNS into groups, and have a different template for each
group. You can define as many groups as you need to effectively manage
your services. You can have a different group for each customer, each
server, or any way you see fit. While it's not necessary to use our
grouping feature to use bulk DNS, a majority of our customers find it useful in
quickly identifying which domains require special attention and which follow a
standard format.
CONCLUSION
If this is not easy enough, please tell us what we should
do to improve the service. We love getting customer feedback, and work
hard to keep all our customers happy. Please send your feedback to Support and we will do our best to accommodate your
needs. If you are a basic DNS customer, contact support for special
offers to upgrade your account to bulk services.
